Fast Paleo food at Wilder and Hunt

It seems everywhere I turn these days, the term “paleo diet” is being bandied about. I first heard of it when a friend of my sister dropped a tonne of weight following it, then I discovered that MiNDFOOD’s new columnist Pete Evans is a follower and advocate of the lifestyle, too. Other fans chimed in on the amazing benefits there are to be had from this way of eating, which is based upon everyday, modern foods that mimic the food groups of our hunter-gatherer ancestors. But the big, and to me most important, question loomed – is it delicious? And also, do I really have the time and energy to invest in it? Turns out Wilder & Hunt have answers to both those questions.

Seems I don’t need to worry about investing time and energy because these guys have done it for us. Wilder & Hunter was founded by Amy Gibson when she became disillusioned at the inability to buy good food fast. So now her and her team have opened up shop selling all sorts of no-grain, no-sugar, no-artificial-anything treats – from breads and spreads to muesli, smoothies and frozen meals.

We gave some of their frozen meals a go and the answer to the first question? A resounding YES – the roasted duck leg, baby roast vegetables and ginger leeks with orange and honey jus meal (pictured) was a late-home emergency dinner, ready in eight minutes, and was positively delicious and with not an ounce of guilt attached. A lunch of lamb, almond, raisin curry with almond, cauliflower and coriander rice was also given two enthusiastic thumbs up. We loved their no-grain banana bread with a creamy smear of 100 per cent almond butter as a nutritious afternoon treat. If this is what paleo is about, I might be a new fan.
