This easy red carpet makeup move is perfect for parties
Easy to apply with just your fingers, this tried and true, party-ready makeup approach transforms your entire look.

The Met Gala is always a visual extravaganza.

Exaggerated fashion and beauty looks abound, but there are always hot-right-now trends and genius ideas to be gleaned from the glamourous red carpet event.

This year’s Gala was no exception and while we rarely get dressed up to the degree the exclusive black-tie event demands, the makeup and hair looks are certainly ripe for recreation.

This year’s theme was an homage to the late Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld and so plenty of invitees donned his favoured black and white, accessorised with plenty of pearls.

One of our favourite looks (above) was worn by model Gigi Hadid, but it wasn’t her edgy all-black and completely sheer dress, custom-made by Givenchy, that won our attention.

It was the fact her makeup-artist Patrick Ta had employed that age-old party beauty go-to, a glitzy shimmer eyeshadow.

It’s a classic move that adds a bit of wow to whatever you’re wearing and celebrity makeup artist Ta made it modern by blending out the silver shimmer without adding any other hues as you normally would with a more smokey eye look. Instead, he finished it with a razor-fine liquid eyeliner extended into a slight feline flick and what appeared to be a set of false lashes.

As Hadid is a Maybelline spokesmodel, the affordable makeup brand was quick to confirm Ta had used a number of its products, including its Falsies Mascara, Superstay Vinyl Ink Longwear Liquid Lipstick in Captivated and Tattoo Studio Ink Pen Eyeliner, to create the look.

That icy shimmer was apparently created using Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in the shade ‘Chill Girl’.

While that particular shade is unavailable here, there are a number of similar glimmering eye shadows that make for a super-easy party eye look.

Regardless of whether they are cream or powder finishes, these shades can be blended across the eyelids with a finger or a brush and really only require a lick of mascara as a finishing touch.

Five of the best shimmer shadows:

Stila Glisten & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Ocean; MAC Dazzleshadow Extreme in Yes To Sequins; Jouer Paris Lights Eye Paint Liquid Eyeshadow in L’amour; Bobbi Brown Luxe Eyeshadow Foil in Opalescent; Charlotte Tilbury Hypnotising Pop Shot in Lover’s Diamond
