Pamela Anderson on the freedom of ditching makeup: ‘I’m OK just like this'”

Pamela Anderson has revealed she finds it so liberating to attend red carpet events makeup-free.

The 56-year-old star caused a stir – and plenty of admiration – when she attended a number of events at Paris Fashion Week in October with a fresh-face, abandoning the heavy makeup that was once her signature.

Going bare-faced is something women do every day, but because women in the entertainment industry are often held up to unfair standards around their appearance and aging, Anderson’s move to ditch makeup felt significant for many.

The star herself, who features in two upcoming TV shows centered around her passions, says she never meant for the moment to go viral.

“I’m makeup free at home, so why not for Paris Fashion Week?” she explains in a new interview with People. “I really didn’t know anyone would notice it, but I’m glad it became a positive message.”

Over the last several years, Anderson has worked to unapologetically reveal her true self to the world, releasing both her memoir, Love, Pamela: A Memoir of Prose, Poetry and Truth, and her documentary, Pamela, A Love Story, earlier this year.

The former Baywatch star says she now doesn’t care about getting older.

“I call if Life-ing, not aging,” she says. “Chasing youth is futile. All we can do is embrace who we are at the moment we are in, and be okay with where our feet stand right now.”

Everything she puts her effort behind now is exactly what she want to do. She lives a quiet life by the water on Vancouver Island, Canada, and regularly spends time with sons Brandon, 28, and Dylan, 25, whom she shares with her ex-husband Tommy Lee.

She prioritises spending time in nature and eating a heathy diet.

“I don’t have to be cool anymore,” she revealed about what she loves about this stage of life. “I can just be me. It’s very freeing to be comfortable in your own skin.”

This laid-back approach can be seen in Anderson’s two new shows.

Pamela’s Cooking with Love, set to air in early 2024, is said to feature Anderson cooking delicious plant-based meals like mushroom congee and savory galettes in her kitchen for family and friends.

The second season of Pamela’s Garden of Eden, just launched on Hulu, follows Anderson and her sons as they continue renovating Anderson’s family estate without the help of interior designers or contractors.

She says her priorities haven’t shifted overwhelmingly, as she was always wanted to be kind, be a good mother. Even though she may have ditched makeup for the aforementioned events, she says it doesn’t mean she has ruled out wearing it for good.

“I’m not opposed to it, I just don’t want to play the game,” she says. “And it felt good to look in the mirror and say, ‘I’m OK just like this.'”
