It’s the latest in a number of appearances in which Anderson has skipped cosmetics, but stepped out in an array of fashion-forward outfits.
Some say there is nothing news-worthy about a woman forgoing makeup, while others say given the previous focus on the ‘Baywatch’ star’s appearance over the course of her career, going bare-faced makes a powerful statement. Anderson has been known in the past for her striking look, including blonde locks piled up, defined, fine eyebrows and favour for nude lipstick.
So what does the star herself think of choosing to return to a more natural look?
“I didn’t come to Paris Fashion Week and think: ‘I’m not going to wear any makeup,’” the star revealed in a video for Vogue while getting ready for the Vivienne Westwood fashion show.
“Something just came over me and I was dressing in these beautiful clothes and and I thought, ‘I don’t want to compete with the clothes,’” she continued. “I’m not trying to be the prettiest girl in the room.”
Though she hadn’t planned the move ahead, she admits it has been a welcome change of pace.
“I feel like it’s just freedom,” the recognisable blonde added. “It’s like a relief.”
Given she isn’t spending hours on her hair or makeup, getting ready is a swift undertaking.
“It’s almost noon and the show is at one,” she said, still in her bathrobe. “I let my hair dry naturally and I just put on some moisturiser.”
In a separate interview with iD, the actress shared her biggest beauty secret.
“These days? Don’t do anything,” she enthused.
“Wake up, whatever is happening is just happening. It’s all about self-acceptance,” she explained. “This is the chapter of my life I’m trying to embrace now.”
The actress acknowledged that getting to that point of “self-acceptance” can be “challenging” at first, especially with beauty standards tending toward looking younger.
“Sometimes it’s challenging and you just have to understand that you are good enough and that you are beautiful,” Anderson said, adding that she now prefers to “say the word life-ing instead of aging.”
“Chasing youth is just futile,” she added.
Confirming the impossibility of the idea of returning to a younger version of yourself she said, “why not just embrace what’s going on?”
“And since I’ve really kind of just walked out the door as me, I feel like a relief, just a weight off my shoulders,” she revealed. “And I actually like it better. I’m dressing for me now and not for everybody else.”
After her Fashion Week appearances, actress Jamie Lee Curtis took to her Instagram praising Anderson’s makeup-free approach, saying she was ‘floored’ by the action.
Curtis wrote: “THE NATURAL BEAUTY REVOLUTION HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN!
“Pamela Anderson in the middle of fashion week with so many pressures and postures, and and and, this woman showed up and claimed her seat at the table with nothing on her face.
“I am so impressed and floored by this act of courage and rebellion.”
Actress Selma Blair responded, “Love this. Beautiful self-assuredness,” while comedian Chelsea Handler wrote, “That’s pretty iconic”.
Anderson has previously commented that she switched to a more natural look in the wake of the death of her makeup artist Alexis Vogel, who passed away from breast cancer in 2019.
In the years since, Anderson has been an vocal advocate for animal rights and environmental causes, but lives what she says is a quiet life at her home on Vancouver Island, Canada.
This year Anderson was the focus of a documentary, “Pamela, A Love Story”, and a released her memoir, “Love, Pamela”. Both give fans a detailed look into her life over the years as she’s navigated the narratives shared around her life over the years, including a tumultuous love story with Mötley Crue rocker Tommy Lee.
