This divisive nail trend is undoubtedly back in style

This divisive nail trend is undoubtedly back in style
Celebrities are clamouring over the return of the French manicure, a staple of the early 2000s.

The revival of certain noughties elements in beauty has been a common recurrence this year.

From patent-shine lips to updos with trailing tendrils and brown lipstick tones, throwback influences have been big.

Now, a nail trend that was inescapable during the era is cementing its part in current nail trends, marking a major comeback.  That’s despite its reputation for being dated and even tacky.

But like many fashion and beauty moments, what goes around comes around.

The return of the French manicure has been bubbling up this year, appearing often with colourful tips in place of the stark white extensions that characterized the long, squared-off white tips of the 90s.

First, bright tips in cobalt blue or ‘Bottega green’ started to pop up, and more recently, softer hues of pastel peach or lavender were touted by nail experts.

In our story on  nail trends and colours for summer, Kylie Naronha, national trainer for specialist nail care and polish brand Mavala, included updated French tips in her trend predictions.

“The French manicure style is timeless and much like fashion, comes and goes in popularity,” she says. “Incorporating bright and bold colours is trending, like purple instead of white or using a two-toned effect and adding in an extra-fine line with a nail brush.”

Though Naronha suggested we are done with “square, thick, white-striped and ostentatious-looking French nails”, they too, have made a strong comeback.

Manicurist Tom Bachik shared an image of Nicola Peltz Beckham bearing what he calls ‘The perfect French Mani’.

Bachik is arguably one of the world’s best-known nail experts, often touted as setinng nail trends, and is the man behind the manicures on Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez and plenty more.

Actress and wife of Brooklyn Beckham, Peltz Beckham’s manicure bears all the hallmarks of an early 2000’s salon-set.

Her nails, created by Bachik, are done with a pinky-nude base, topped with extended length and squared-off, stark-white tips.

Bachik shared that he had created the set using his tools created in collaboration with Tweezerman as well as Aprés Nail Gel Couleur in Fairy Wings and Aprés Nail French Manicure Gel in French White.

Bachik has also recently shared a number of colourful and shorter white variations of the French manicure on his A-List clients, among more classic single-colour sets.
