Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have hired a top-level diplomat with expertise in Middle Eastern conflict to rescue their public image.
Fiona Mcilwham, a “diplomat and wannabe supermum” according to her Twitter account, has been brought in as private secretary to restore the royal couple’s reputation.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been labeled “hypocrites” for recently taking four private jets in the space of 11 days, in spite of their eco-conscious and egalitarian brand.
A source close to the Royal Family told The Mail on Sunday that Mcilwham is the “safest pair of hands you can get and that is what they really need right now”.
Harry and Meghan’s decision to take two recent holidays by private jet flies in the face of their rhetoric for greater action to combat climate change.
The outcry has threatened to damage their “eco-warrior” status, and it’s understood Mcilwham has been parachuted in to rescue their image before it’s too late.
Who is Fiona Mcilwham?
Mcilwham is a highly-regarded British diplomat.
Her work in international relations has spanned the globe, including stints in some of the world’s conflict-ridden trouble spots such as the Middle East and Albania.
She became Britain’s Ambassador to Albania in 2009 when she was just 35, during a time of mounting political and social and turmoil.
She’s served in the UK Foreign Office for 21 years.
Mcilwham was headhunted by a group of Harry and Meghan’s senior staff, including head of PR Sara Latham.
The Mail on Sunday report the Duke and Duchess themselves were present at Mcilwham’s final interview.
Mcilwham lives in North London with husband David Korski, who was a senior aide to former British Prime Minister David Cameron.
