Pretty in pink! The rose-pink lipstick everyone was wearing at The Golden Globes

We always say red is the ultimate lipstick colour for any occasion, but judging on the Golden Globes red carpet, this year it's being joined by pink.

The easiest guess for its dominance on stars like Emma Stone,  Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Lopez would be the overwhelming impact of Barbiecore in 2023.

However moving into the new year, it’s a more subtle, flattering, rosy hue that stars appeared to reach for in droves to prep for the 2024 Golden Globes awards ceremony.

It was easy to guess Barbie star herself, Margot Robbie would don pink head to toe, but when dedicated red-lipstick lover Taylor Swift retires her favourite red lipsticks in favour of a mauve-pink option, you know the trend is dominating.

Best Pink Lipsticks 2024

Get the look (L-R):  L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Satin Lipstick in Made in Paris; Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Colour in Soft Berry; Hermès Rouge Hermès Lipstick in Rose Encens; Elizabeth Arden Lip Colour in Virtuous Rose; Jane Iredale Triple Luxe Long Lasting Naturally Moist Lipstick in Tania

So what’s the appeal of pink lipstick right now? A mid-rose hue with a creamy-matte finish, a touch of gentle shine, or occasionally a touch of glimmering pearl texture, is flattering and lasts well. What’s more, a mid-toned pink complements a wide range of skin tones and a number of outfit hues without looking overdone.

The mid-pink shades being chosen are soft but not saccharine or juvenile, and in everyday life make a usefully versatile option to wear, whether you’re heading to the office, out shopping or to an after-dark event.

They also match well with a sweep of pink blush, that helps create a fresh, well-rested and healthy makeup look.

At the Globes, Robbie’s makeup artist Pati Dubroff actually reached for a slightly more nude-toned pink for her lipstick, applying Chanel’s brand new 31 Le Rouge Lipstick in Beige Rouge, but it appears to have been applied over a more pink toned pencil to work with the Aussie’s complexion and custom hot pink Armani Privé gown.

The always trend-setting Helen Mirren stayed true to her long-standing partnership with L’Oreal, with her makeup artist Jo Strettell taking a ‘Grecian Goddess’ inspiration to set off the actress’ lavender Dolce & Gabbana gown. Strettell lined Helen’s lips with L’Oreal Colour Riche Lip Liner in Lasting Plum and L’Oreal Age Perfect Satin Lipstick #210.

Radiant Emma Stone took home a Globe on the night for best actress in a musical or comedy movie for her performance in Poor Things. Looking stunning in a custom Louis Vuitton gown, her makeup was created by Rachel Goodwin. The makeup artist used Charlotte Tilbury products for the fresh-faced glam, including the brand’s famous Lip Cheat lip liner in Pillow Talk Medium topped with K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in a new pink shade, yet to be released.
