Taylor Swift’s favourite red lipstick has had a must-try makeover

Taylor Swift wore a red lip on Super Bowl Sunday in February, when her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his team took home the trophy.
A classic red lip never goes out of style.

Could there be a better person to road-test long-wear lipsticks than Taylor Swift? The superstar musician is constantly on the go, performing around the world and spending time with her boyfriend, NFL player Travis Kelce, rocking her signature red lipstick each time.

Given the the star has also worn – and sung about –  red lipstick consistently during her record breaking Eras Tour, where she sings and dances her way through her back catalogue and related ‘eras’ for around three hours each night, we know she knows her way around a lippy that lasts.

Now, her go-to red lipstick has had a makeover.

Pat McGrath Labs Dramatique Mega Lip Pencil in Elson, said to be Taylor’s go-to shade.

While Swift is famously shy with endorsements, there have been leaked details that reveal her absolute favourite is the LiquiLust Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick from celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath’s eponymous brand, Pat McGrath Labs. The shade she wears is a vivid blue-red hue, named Elson 4.

While it lasts extremely well, the downside is that it is a liquid formula, which can be drying on the lips. Now, the famous shade is available in the new Dramatique Mega Lip Pencil, just released from Pat McGrath Labs.

The crayon-style lip colour still delivers incredibly opaque pigment in the same hue, it’s easier to apply and the sharper tip means you don’t need another lip liner.

““I developed the Dramatique Mega Lip Pencil to inspire your creativity at home, shares the makeup creator,  “It has the intense pigment and lush texture of a lipstick, but the tapered, pencil-like tip gives you both precision and the opportunity to play. Use it as a traditional lipstick, or let your imagination run wild with bold lip designs.”

No word yet if Taylor is a fan, but we wouldn’t be surprised. One big clue is that the new red is also available with a black liquid eyeliner in a set called the ‘Taylor Made’ Dramatique Lip & Eye Kit.

Ultra sharp, strictly matte and perfectly lined, the 12-time Grammy winner wears a very similar red lip colour each time. She’s even spelt out her love in lyrics, referring to her signature style in hugely popular songs Blank Space and, what else – Style.

“Cherry lips, crystal skies, I could show you incredible things” she sings in the former, while spelling out her appeal, “I got that red lip, classic thing that you like,” in the latter.

Taylor Swift’s Signature Red Lipstick Shade

The evidence Swift actually wears the Pat McGrath Labs lip colour came via a revelation from legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath herself, back in 2022. McGrath used her own line of products on Swift for the music video for Swift’s song Bejeweled. McGrath even made a surprise cameo, and subsequently posted a full breakdown of the makeup look on her Instagram.

In it, the star wears the LiquiLust Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick.

More evidence this product and shade remains a Swift favourite came after Swift’s famously rain-soaked Eras tour stop in Nashville, Tennessee. A tipster to famous celebrity-spotting Instagram account DeuxMoi, revealed a list of products on Swift’s show look supposedly direct from tour crew, made up of solely Pat McGrath Labs products, including the Elson 4 lip colour.

Another of Taylor Swift’s lipstick faves is MAC’s Ruby Woo. She confirmed as much to People magazine in 2015, when she said: “I recently discovered Ruby Woo by MAC, which I think everyone knows is a staple. I was the last person to discover it.”

NARS’s Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in the shade Dragon Girl has long been a widespread favourite for it’s easy to use crayon-style format and staying power. Swift herself was snapped using it alongside Karlie Kloss in a behind-the-scenes snap getting ready for the 2014 Met Gala — Swift with the NARS product in her hand.  Proof of it’s wide-reaching appeal, it’s still a best-seller.
