Poem: Now

By Anne Blair

sunrise

They don’t want to hear

About the roads I’ve travelled

Heard it all before they say

Then talk about themselves instead

I feel invisible as they talk over my head

Redundant, my achievements dismissed

But this is Now

And it’s their Now

Do I dismantle my ego

Sad about the dying of my light?

Or do I seek out another road

And re-imagine a new world

A new Now

A just-for-me Now

Renew acquaintance with birds and sky

Admire the leaves on giant eucalypts

A-glitter in the morning sun

Watch glorious sunsets among lavender clouds

Sit in the shade and write new poems

That burst with promise of a new light.
