Renowned coinmakers The Royal Mint have crafted a special coin to honour Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming wedding on May 19. Officially approved by Buckingham Palace, the coin features an image of the royal couple looking into each other’s eyes, inspired by a photograph of the couple taken during their engagement announcement at the Sunken Garden.
One of the designers, Jody Clark, used the images from the Sunken Garden to recreate a likeness on the coin, with details including Meghan’s coat and ring perfected.
The coin is available in silver and gold proof, and is inscribed with the date of the royal wedding. A picture of Queen Elizabeth II features on the reverse side of the coin, of which just 15,000 editions have been made. The silver version is worth £5 (approximately $9.73NZ).
Prince William and Kate Middleton also had a royal coin made for their 2011 wedding. Children Prince George and Princess Charlotte were also honoured with a coin upon their birth – which means we can expect a Prince Louis coin soon, too.
