An attack in New York City is being treated as an act of terrorism.

More than 8 are dead and at least 11 injured from a violent attack in New York City. A man who drove a truck along a bike path beside the Hudson River hit a number of people before crashing and exiting the vehicle with fake guns, the New York Times reports.
Police shot the man, who is now being treated in hospital and will be taken into custody. The truck hit multiple people and also crashed into a school bus on its journey through Lower Manhattan.
Authorities are treating the incident as a terrorist attack after officers reported the attacker yelling “Allahu Akbar,” Arabic for “God is great,” after leaving the vehicle.
The Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio confirmed the beliefs: “Based on information we have at this moment, this was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians,” he said in a news conference.
