Off the Runway: Chanel Haute Couture

Karl Lagerfeld’s extravagant and other-worldly backdrops that have become the norm for the Chanel runway were absent from the haute couture AW 16/17 showing. Instead Lagerfeld paid tribute to the Chanel ateliers, recreating the ateliers on the rue Cambon down to the smallest details with tables, sewing machines and mannequins setting the scene.

Sleek silhouettes and geometric shapes dominated the Chanel runway, while autumnal shades — browns, maroon and orange — complemented a signature Chanel colour palette of black, white and dusky pinks.
