The power pout is back! Five of the best new lipstick launches to try now
Swipe on one of these silky, pigment-packed new lip colour launches.

With the ‘lipstick index’ a known phenomenon, it’s fair to guess we might see sales in lip products rise this year.

Coined by Estée Lauder’s Leonard Lauder in 2001, the lipstick index is the theory that sales of affordable luxuries rise in economic downturns.

So while a big purchase might be off the cards right now, some of us might just be looking for a little pick-me-up in the form of a new lipstick or gloss.

While the idea of ‘affordable’ is subjective, if you can extend to a new lip colour there are plenty of new arrivals to choose from.

Here are five fabulous lip launches that have just landed:

Karen Murrell’s Confidence collection

NZ natural lipstick Queen Karen Murrell is growing her already extensive range of pinks, reds and nudes, by adding four new shades of chocolate brown, mocha, caramel and nude. Designed to flatter all complexions and work with all makeup styles, the launch is perfectly timed to coincide with the 90s influence infusing beauty right now as well as the imminent arrival of autumn.

Revlon Colourstay Suede Ink Lipsticks

It’s hard to beat Revlon for easy-to-wear lip colours that feel great on. The brand is working hard to stay at the forefront of texture and colour trends and these new matte arrivals are a fantastic addition to any beauty routine. The bold pigment punch is almost unrivaled and they last well.

Hourglass Unlocked Satin Creme Lipstick

Everything we could dream of in a lipstick comes true in Hourglass’s new Unlocked Satin Crème Lipstick.  We’re obsessed with the feel of this silky cream formula that skims over lips and leaves them looking smooth and hydrated. It contains nourishing, moisturising ingredients including mango seed butter, avocado oil, and argan oil. The vegan formula is packed with pigment and offers a beautiful sheen to lips without looking overly glossy or too matte.

MAC Locked Kiss Ink 24H Lip Colour

We’re not sure if anyone really needs a lipstick to stay on for 24 hours, but the claim only serves to illustrate how these lip colours are designed to be budge-proof. In addition, they really feel like nothing on, which is rare for a liquid lipstick and shows how far formulations have come. There are a stunning range of shades in this line too.

Hermès Rouge Hermès Shiny Lipstick, Limited Edition

We may be stretching the ‘affordable’ part of affordable luxuries to the absolute limit, but they are more affordable than say, a Hermès Birkin bag, right? These limited-edition lipsticks in three seasonal hues have a fun seaside stripe on the casing and give a flattering shine to the lips.
