Five minutes with White Shirt Campaign ambassador Megan Irwin

Witchery and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) have teamed up again for their ninth annual White Shirt Campaign. Today, OCRF White Shirt Day marks the culmination of the campaign.

MiNDFOOD STYLE caught up with one of the campaign’s ambassadors, top model Megan Irwin who has been supporting White Shirt Campaign for two years now. Only 22 years old from Adelaide, Irwin started modelling when she was at the young age of 14 after being scouted by IMG Models.


What motivated you to get involved with the White Shirt Campaign?

I had absolutely no hesitation in putting my hand up to get involved in this incredible campaign. As a woman and a huge supporter of women, it is extremely important for me to be able to use my platform and voice to be a small part of bringing awareness to this very big issue.

It’s your second year involved with the campaign. What do you hope to achieve this year?

I hope to continue bringing awareness and assisting in raising the funds necessary for the vital research of creating an early detection test for ovarian cancer. Through my own personal experiences, it became very apparent to me that a lot of people are very uneducated about the staggering statistics and severity of this deadly disease.

Why should we all get behind the White Shirt Campaign?

We should all get behind this campaign as ovarian cancer is a devastating silent killer. This disease does not discriminate. Any woman of any age could be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. At any minute. Through buying a white shirt from Witchery you are helping to raise the funds needed to find an early detection test. Research is the only answer to prevent this disease. Once the early detection test is developed we will be able to save the lives of women around the world.

What’s a fact about ovarian cancer you wish every woman knew?

I wish that everyone knew that one woman every 10 hours die of ovarian cancer. Through my involvement in this campaign and becoming more educated on the facts and statistics I was deeply shocked. Most women assume that a pap smear will be able to detect ovarian cancer but it does not. A pap smear will only detect pre-cancerous changes to the cells of the cervix. This was information that I was completely unaware of.

How do you stay fit and healthy while on the go?

I stay fit and healthy through hitting the gym in the mornings before work and I usually try and fit in a class in the evening also. I love running, pilates and yoga. I stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water during the day and I am a huge fan of multi-vitamins. I love cooking and making healthy meals at home with lots of vegetables and greens. I am currently in Europe though so I have been indulging in the occasional croissant or two!

What beauty essentials do you always travel with?

SK-II Masks are my absolutely go to! My favourite perfume Le Lebo – Santal 33 and Chanel Rogue Allure lipstick because you never know when you may need it! I could list products for days – I am definitely not a light traveller!

What has been the highlight of your modelling career to date?

There have been so many highlights over the past few years that I couldn’t possibly name one. I am so grateful for the career that I have and the opportunities that it has given me. I have lived all over the world, I have worked with the most incredibly inspiring creatives who are at the top of their game. I have met the most amazing people. To be honest with you being a part of a campaign like White Shirt Campaign is a huge highlight for me. I am so blessed that I am in a position to be able to use my voice to bring awareness and create change in the world.

What’s next for you? Is there something that you want to achieve in 2017?

At the moment I am so busy travelling! I have just based myself in Paris and recently got an apartment which I adore. At the moment I am on set in Milan for a job, then flying to Paris tomorrow, then London the next day for three days and Australia next week for two days and straight back to Europe! It’s so all so busy and crazy but I am loving it. I am in a really great place and super focused on achieving all the goals I have set myself personally and professionally. Watch this space…
