Fans of the hit royal drama can rejoice: The Crown season six will be coming to your screens.
Previously, Netflix had announced that The Crown would end after five seasons. But the show’s creator Peter Morgan, has decided the show needs more time to tell the story in full.
“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” said Morgan.
What can we expect from The Crown season six?
First off, don’t expect to see Harry and Meghan entering the storyline. Morgan has made it clear that series six will not bring the story any closer to present-day, rather “it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”
The storyline will end in the early 2000s, dealing with the end of Prince Charles and Diana’s marriage and her tragic death in 1997.
Harry Potter’s Imelda Staunton will take over from Olivia Coleman for the role of Queen Elizabeth II.
Lesley Manville, who starred in Daniel Day-Lewis’ Phantom Thread will play Princess Margaret, following Helena Bonham Carter’s portrayal of the queen’s sister.
Princess Diana will be played by 24-year-old Emma Corrin, set to appear in the upcoming fourth season of the show which will be released later this year.
