The long white gown and face-covering veil are still popular, but many brides these days find these dresses don’t represent their own personality and aesthetic style.
It’s why we’re seeing a range on influences creeping into bridal attire, from very minimalist and understated dresses, to touches of colour and yes, the rising of hemlines.
Miniskirts have dominated runways and ready-to-wear recently, and short, more playful styles have made their way back into wardrobes. While making a long-term commitment should be taken seriously, having a little fun with your wedding dress is something many modern brides are truly embracing.
This can be especially true for those getting hitched after being together for a number of years or after having children, or for second weddings.,. Location plays a part too, like a more casual beach-side ceremony or those eloping or having a very small-scale, courthouse or registry office weddings.

Then there’s the trend for a bride to choose not just one special dress for the day, but two or more, including a party-appropriate style for kicking up their heels and hitting the dance floor in later in the evening.
All of which is playing into the rise of chic, short-hemmed wedding dresses. And it’s not just the demure tea-length style that’s popular, but mini dresses that fall well above the knee.

It doesn’t mean these dresses are any less special. On offer from some of the top-designers in the game, reaffirming that the demand is there, mini wedding dresses are made of the same luxe fabrications and designed to fit and flatter perfectly.
The influential trend for bows large and small in fashion is one key trend to also have a visible impact on wedding dresses.
Dimensional elements like statement ruffles, exaggerated sleeves, curled rosettes and fluttering layers of organza or tulle are another popular approach being seen in shorter styles, adding lively and feminine touches.
For more casual affairs, a sleek silk number is the perfect option.
