Considering which new beauty arrivals are worth spending your money on? There’s an overwhelming number of new launches landing every week, so it can be hard to know where to start.
That’s where we come in. Perusing the new launches and sorting the wheat from the chaff – or the lipstick that lasts, versus one that doesn’t – is our specialty.
This season the majority of makeup launches are focused on creating a fresh, fun and not overly ‘done’ look. The benefit of which is that most of them are fast and easy to apply – bonus! Of course there are still products for those of us that have the occaison (or none at all) to embrace a little more glam – a statement lip here, a glitter eye there, perhaps?
Skincare continues to grasp the proven science that shows it brings about real change in your skin. It’s not only with active ingredients like peptides or retinal, but how those ingredients are combined with others or encapsulated to help penetrate and get to work.
Whether you’re a skincare or makeup connoisseur, or you’re simply browsing for something fresh to add to your beauty regimen, here are some great new solutions that have just landed or are days away from dropping.
Part of a mini ‘Afterglow’ collection, these two new makeup arrivals might just be our favourite products – or at least the ones we’re reaching for most often – in recent times. The tiniest dot of the liquid blush goes a long way, dabbed on cheeks and blended in for a gentle but luminous flush of natural-looking colour. The lip colours are hydrating, with fresh, dewy shine that skims over lip creases and the shades are supremely flattering.
Jo Malone London has long celebrated the beloved English pear through its timeless fruity-floral fragrance, English Pear & Freesia. Now the brand has created an offshoot inspired by the iconic scent. A pretty new cologne, English Pear & Sweet Pea combines luscious fruits, enveloped in softly scented pastel sweet peas, nestled on a base of powdery white musk. The English Pear & Freesia candle also gains a cute new lid as part of the collection.
The skin on your neck and chest can be prone to wrinkles and creases but also finicky about irritating active ingredients and quick to flare with sensitivity. It’s why skin experts Dermaviduals, known for custom-blending targeted skincare for your skin type in the salon, have created a specific Décolleté Cream to firm and smooth without upsetting skin’s delicate balance in the area. Packed with antioxidants, ceramides, phytosterols and skin caring lipids it tackles those signs of aging and helps skin ward off the challenges that can impact skin’s health and appearance.
A surefire hit once summer gets underway and we start revealing our limbs a little more! Sothys has some new additions to its beautiful Organics skincare line. This lightweight, natural Organics Beautifying Oil is a multi-tasker meant for use after the shower while skin is still damp, leaving a silky-soft veil on the skin with no greasy finish. Great to add an alluring sheen to shins and collarbones and for adding extra nourishment and disguising split ends in your hair too.
Want to create the perfect slick bun or hair-up but always battling flyaways? Like if a mascara wand and a glue stick had a baby, this clever wand helps smooth down fine hairs with fine gel for an ultra sleek look and keeps them in place all day or night.
In the mood for a little bit of luxe? This makeup palette has the perfect amount of ethereal glimmer to dress up eyelids with smooth neutrals for day and a touch of glam for after dark.
We love a little problem solver, and when it comes to skin, those deep, sore pimples are begging to be solved! This little tube of wonder cools, calms and clears spots and has a clever formula that’s safe for use during pregnancy, unlike other similar products.
French makeup artist Violette’s playful and free-spirited makeup range has just arrived Down Under at MECCA. The Violette_FR offering includes sheer and matte lipsticks, blush sticks, boldly-hued eye paints and glow-inducing serums and encourages a relaxed, artistic but overall, easy, approach to application. A fresh and feminine fragrance that combines ylang-ylang and bergamot with a musky base rounds out the gorgeous collection.
While they won’t take the place of a regular and consistent routine with proven active ingredients, sheet masks are a good pick-me-up when skin needs a little extra help to look bouncy and fresh, especially before a special event. this one is loaded with peptides that help with collagen and elastin production and also contains Niacinamide to help smooth pores and boost the appearance of skin.
Fans of Lauder’s little brown bottle of goodness will find it hard to believe the hydrating and revitalising serum could be improved upon, but this new release has a very specific purpose. Consider it a ‘rescue remedy’ for stressed, irritated, sensitive and red skin, calming and resetting it with a gentle formula that contains 15% Bifidus Ferment to instantly soothe. It leaves skin happy and hydrated.
We all love retinol for its age-defying powers, but retinal is another advanced form of vitamin A that is even more powerful than retinol, so naturally it’s gaining all the buzz right now. It works faster and in Murad’s new Retinal ReSculpt Overnight Treatment, a clever pharmaceutical-like encapsulation means it’s more effective too. It promises to help smooth deep-set wrinkles and crepey skin and improve elasticity.
In our experience Shiseido has been a star performer when it comes to foundations, so a new arrival is always cause for celebration. Unlike the recent glut of sheer skin tints, this is more of a traditional foundation with medium coverage but it still gives a dewy, hydrated and youthful looking finish that wont settle into, or highlight fine lines and creases.
Kiwi fragrance company Nevé periodically updates their scents with the seasons, and this spring’s two new arrivals deliver just what we need to feel uplifted and ready to face the challenges that come our way. We’re taken with Chamomile Calm, a grounding, calming scent that balances lavender and bright, sweet orange with chamomile, soft sage and sandalwood.
The second, Seaside In Sorrento, is inspired by what it sounds like, dropping the top on a convertible and cruising the winding coastal roads of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula. Take in the balmy ocean air, with hints of ripe citrus zest, bergamot, wild herbs and cashmere. The new scents come as candles, room sprays or car diffusers and are available from September 17.
