It’s exciting that there are so many options when shopping for beauty products now. These days you don’t have to stroll the aisles of dedicated high-end beauty retailers or department store to find worthy, desirable beauty products that will give you a great result. Now you can add-to-cart alongside your rotisserie chicken and packet of Tim Tams at your local supermarket.
It’s generally also far cheaper to shop for beauty options at these mass grocery retailers.
While it’s harder to buy complexion makeup given the lack of possibilities for shade-matching with your skin tone without testers, there are other makeup categories that are easy-as-pie. Who doesn’t love a Maybelline mascara, for example, always guaranteed to look great and with only black or brown to choose from, it’s an easy decision in the supermarket aisle.
Products used around your eyes like mascara and liner can have a short shelf life (3 months if you’re playing by the rules!) as they easily can become contaminated with bacteria that can impact your eye health so it’s useful being able to regularly replace them.
Body care products like lotions and fake tan are also a breeze to shop at the supermarket and given the speed many of us go through them, particularly in summer, it’s great having go-to options easily at hand. Generally their performance is just as good as higher-priced products from dedicated beauty retailers.
MCoBeauty Xtendlash Lengthening Tubular Mascara
Swipes on easily for length and a touch of volume this mascara won’t smudge under your eyes. Removes with just warm water too.
Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide24 Face Moisturiser
Olay has recently revamped its range with modern formulas and textures, including this age-defying moisturiser with peptides to support naturally firm and bouncy skin. It also contains pure grade niacinamide to help with smoothness and minimising the appearance of pores.
Ethique Pinkalicious Uplifting Solid Shampoo Bar
This solid shampoo is one of the best of its type we’ve tried and will last for at least 80 uses, not to mention saving on plastic waste too.
Clairol Root Touch Up Powder Hair Colour and Root Concealing Spray
Extend the life of your hair colour with these handy ‘touch up’ products that are designed to temporarily disguise regrowth or cover up your greys if that is something you wish to do. The powder is useful to quickly blend the colour at your parting, while the spray is faster for covering larger areas and is useful for disguising thinning areas of hair too.
Maybelline Superstay Vinyl Ink Lip Colour
An excellent brand in general and usually in-stock, this liquid lip will not budge and offers high-impact colour for your lips with a modern shine finish in lovely flattering pinky-nude hues. The matte version is highly recommended too, although you’ll need an oil cleanser to remove it at the end of the night!
L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Pure Retinol Night Serum
Anti-wrinkle ingredient retinol can be pricey but this is a more affordable option with a beautiful texture that helps smooth and refine your skin.
Garnier Fructis Hydrating Aloe Vera Hair Food
This line of hair masks works beautifully, can also be used as conditioner, has options for different hair types and comes in a generous size.
Essano Happy Skin Jelly Cleanser
A simple gel cleanser that is pH-balanced so it’s super gentle on skin, even sensitive skin types. It has an appealing but unobtrusive scent and is formulated with an amino-acid complex, fruit acids, and hyaluronic acid for an effective cleanse that leaves skin soft and smooth.
Formation day cream, night cream, exfoliant and cleanser
We couldn’t choose just one product because this range shows how far supermarket skincare has come. Modern formulas that cleanse, smooth and hydrate with desirable ingredients like Olive Squalane, moisture-locking Glycerin, natural AHA’s and barrier-boosting ceramides are contained in this line up that forms a well-rounded routine with each product coming in under $30, although you can sometimes find them on sale for under $20. There’s a great niacinamide & zine serum too.
Glow Lab Body Moisturiser Illuminating Body Butter
Another exemplary brand bring the performance, scents and textures of more luxury offerings to the supermarket at far more accessible prices. We love the home fragrance line up of candles, room sprays and diffusers, but the face and body products are great too. The rich, hydrating cream transforms dry, crepey skin and helps it look healthy and supple in a matter of days.
Only Good Body Wash
The aesthetic bottles, (made entirely of sugarcane!) top natural extracts that are beneficial to skin and beautiful scents make the recently relaunched Only Good range of body wash and hand wash seeking out for your kitchen counter and shower shelves or caddy.
Bondi Sands Tanning Foam and Mitt
An elite brand of fake tanning products, Bondi Sands makes so many products there is something for everyone. Supermarkets generally have a great range but if you are a novice, seek out the light tanning foam and apply it with the applicator mitt for a well blended finish. The 1-Hour Express product develops in 60 minutes so you can shower before bed without the risk of the tanning solution staining your sheets.
Maybelline Ultra Slim Brow Pencil
When it comes to brow products, fine-tip pencils are great to boost your natural set. The thin strokes are able to be used to sketch in single strokes to fill out the front of your brow or disguise any gaps.
