The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on a week long tour on Scotland.

With the Duchess’s passion for child development, the couple attended a ‘Roots of Empathy’ session with ‘Tiny teacher’ Saul, mum Laura and instructor Joan.

Roots of Empathy is an early intervention programme run by Action for Children which has been developed to help children aged 5-13 build empathy.

The programme uses a unique approach, with a local parent and baby (or ‘Tiny Teacher’) alongside a trained instructor guiding the children to develop empathy.

The forward-thinking classes help guide children’s understanding of a baby’s needs and emotions. The royals believe helping children build empathy is a crucial part of good social and emotional development.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, the Duke and Duchess also attended University of Glasgow during the exam season, talking with students about the impact on their mental health.
