Rebecca Taylor brings new fashion label to Auckland’s Tessuti
Rebecca Taylor's fresh and feminine designs are accessible again, through new label A’Court.

Fashion designer and creative director Rebecca Taylor became well-known in the fashion world for her eponymous label.

Based in New York and launched in 1996, the brand became globally-known for stylish, easy-to-wear garments that fit well in the lives of many busy modern women.

However the New Zealand born designer sold her namesake label in 2019 and stepped away from fashion to take a break, moving her family home to New Zealand after after a sabbatical in Paris.

But the Wellington-born designer couldn’t stay away from her fashion roots, and has now established label A’Court. A selection of pieces from the new label has just landed at Auckland’s Tessuti.

A’Court is a collection of garments that feature feminine tailoring juxtaposed by masculine suiting fabrics, all loosely inspired by historic heroines from the Victorian era.

Think: ruffled shirts in crisp cotton or silk, demure day dresses with puffed sleeves and high-necked, meticuously crafted pintucked shirts.

While Taylor now splits her time between Wellington and New York City, A’Court collections are meticulously made with the finest materials in both Sicily and New York City. Mindfully manufactured in minimal numbers, each piece is designed and crafted to be seasonless, reflecting the notion of buying well once.

“A’Court was created to offer a more mindful approach to the traditional model of fashion consumerism,” says Taylor.

“Items are created and designed for lifetime wear. We only use the best fabrics and each item is crafted by incredibly talented makers in Italy who have been crafting suiting for over sixty years.”

Tessuti Director, Ali McIntoch says she is honoured to present such an iconic designer and is looking forward to sharing the collection with her loyal clientele.

“Beautiful functionality is at the forefront of what we look for in all fashion garments stocked at Tessuti, we offer versatile garments that form an elevated capsule wardrobe to wear across seasons, explains McIntoch.

“What is truly special about A’Court is the limited number of garments made, so you can be assured when wearing an item from their collection that you are one of few, which is a unique experience.”
