Princess Eugenie of York, 27, has announced her engagement to long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank. The Queen’s sixth granddaughter said the proposal was as a “complete surprise” and called it a “perfect moment”, BBC reports.
Brooksbank, 30, crafted a romantic proposal at a lake in Nicaragua just on sunset. “The lake was so beautiful. The light was just a special light I had never seen,” Eugenie says. “I actually said this is an incredible moment, and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we have been together seven years. I was over the moon.”
The couple met on a skiing trip ten years, Eugenie explains. “We met when I was 20 and Jack was 24 and fell in love. We have the same passions and drive for life.” For Brooksbank, it was “love at first sight. I love Eugenie so much and we are just so happy for what is to come,” he said.
Eugenie added that the Queen was very pleased with the news. “Granny actually knew right at the beginning [of the engagement]. She was very happy, as was my grandfather.”
The soon-to-be married couple released engagement photographs taken in the Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace. Eugenie wore an Erdem dress and a large ring containing diamonds and a padparadscha sapphire. The ring is similar in shape and design to her mother’s, and Brooksbank says the pair designed it together. “What’s amazing about it is that it changes colour from every different angle that you look at it, which is what I think of Eugenie. That she changes colour and is just so amazing,” he says.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank will marry at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in autumn – the same venue that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry in this May.
