Princess Charlotte turns 9! See the new photo taken by mother Kate
Princess Charlotte has turned nine and to mark the occasion, a new photo has been released showing the young royal is growing up.

Her parents the Prince and Princess of Wales, released the new image on their social media accounts on Charlotte’s birthday, May 2.

In the photograph, taken in the last few days by her mother Kate, Charlotte, the couple’s second child, is pictured smiling happily in the garden of their home in Windsor.

Leaning on a garden fence covered in flowers, she wears a maroon cardigan, denim skirt and tights.

“Happy 9th Birthday, Princess Charlotte!” read the message accompanying the photo on the royal couple’s official Instagram account. “Thank you for all of the kind messages today.”

As the second-born of the Prince and Princess of Wales, the princess is third in line for the throne.

Kensington Palace, the official residence of William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, regularly releases photos to mark the children’s birthdays.

Most recently a new photo of Prince Louis was released to celebrate his sixth birthday, showing the happy child revealing his smile with what appeared to be a recently missing tooth.

The family have remained out of the spotlight of late after Kate revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer, and has been undergoing treatment. Prince William had been taking a break to support the family, but returned to work last month.
