Prince Christian, who is second in line to the Danish throne, stepped out with members of his family waving to crowds of well-wishers. The young Prince was joined by his parents Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary and his grandmother Queen Margrethe, to greet members of the public who had gathered in the courtyard below.
Later in the day, the royal family hosted a gala dinner celebrating Denmark’s future king. They welcomed fellow royals heirs such as Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway and Princess Estelle of Sweden.
The celebration also saw the participation of 11-year-old Princess Estelle of Sweden, accompanied by her parents, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. The 19-year-old heir to the Dutch throne, Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, added to the royal presence.
The Scandinavian royal families share not only royal duties but also strong personal bonds. It’s a common sight to witness the Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish royal families vacationing together or coming together for significant occasions such as weddings, funerals, and christenings. Moreover, they frequently take on the role of godparents to each other’s children – a tradition exemplified by Princess Victoria, Prince Haakon, and Princess Mette-Marit, all serving as godparents to Prince Christian.
Extending the guest list, the palace invited around 200 young people from the Danish Commonwealth, allowing each of Denmark’s municipalities, Greenland and the Faroe Islands to invite two 18-year-old guests to the party.
New family portraits
The portraits were taken by photographer Dennis Stenild just before the Crown Prince Family departed for the gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace.
