Former motocross star, Carey Hart, will race and sign autographs near Timaru on Saturday.

Pink is performing her first New Zealand concert at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday but it seems her husband, Carey Hart, has an upcoming event all of his very own.

Carey Hart is set to compete in six races across two days at the Timaru event this weekend. The 43-year-old is entered in the Veteran 40-44 class, which includes a feature race on Sunday. Racing is set to start at 10 am each day. Fans will even get the chance to have an autograph signed by the racing champion this weekend.

The former professional freestyle motocross rider has offered to sign autographs at around noon on Saturday and Sunday, once the first round of the New Zealand Veteran and Women’s Motocross Championship on a property on Caird Rd, Southburn, about 22 kilometres south of Timaru, concludes, organiser Adele May said.

“He’s Pink’s husband but anyone who knows motocross knows he’s a big star in his own right,” May said.

Hart took to Instagram on Thursday to announce he was racing in the weekend event. “Well, it’s official. Looks like I’m racing this weekend in New Zealand,” he said in a post.

Hart is famous for being the first motorcyclist to attempt a backflip on a 250cc motorcycle during a competition – a trick he did at the Gravity Games in Providence, Rhode Island in 2000.

South Canterbury Motorcycle Club president Andrew Richardt, who is helping to run the event, said he was excited Hart would be coming. According to Richardt, organising Hart to participate in the event had been in the works since Thursday morning.

“He put on Instagram last night [Wednesday] about wanting some information, and one of our committee members got in touch with him, and it has all fallen into place.”

It’s predicted that the competition may have gotten a bit more popular since Hart’s entry.

“Because he’s there now I think it will attract quite a margin,” May said.
