Pet owners understand too well the special bond between animal and owner that develops.
Maria Sharp was no different. When the photographer first noticed the declining health of her four-legged-friend Chubby, she wanted to create a special tribute to her that she could keep forever.
Chubby and Maria had been best friends for 16 years, ever since Maria picked her up from the pound with her family, age 7.
“I know how important it is to preserve memories and time with loved ones, and this shouldn’t just apply to humans,” Sharp told Mashable
But sadly for Maria, Chubby’s health started declining a few years ago due to cognitive dysfunction, otherwise known as Alzheimer’s for dogs. Soon after the diagnosis, she decided to create a portrait series that she could cherish for years to come. So Maria hired fellow photographer Suzanne Price to capture the special bond between the two. See the moving photos below.
