Miley Cyrus bypassed sleek and minimal for a big, bold, bouffant style 'do at the Grammy Awards.

Taylor Swift may have grabbed most of the headlines about golden gramophone wins and a surprise album, but when it comes to beauty news, it was Miley Cyrus making waves at the Grammys.

Or should that be curls, as beyond the singer’s two Grammy wins for her hit song ‘Flowers,’ her  voluptuous hairstyle had everyone talking on the night.

The big hair, no stranger to a star who grew up in Nashville, Tennessee (Dolly Parton is her Godmother), accompanied Cyrus’ head-turning, barely-there gold metal mesh dress by Maison Margiela for the occasion.

The star, 31, took to her Instagram to reveal the dress, created by Maison Margiela creative director John Galliano, took 675 hours of craftsmanship and a painstaking arrangement of 14,000 safety pins adorned with French antique beads. The dress was one of five outfits Cyrus donned for the occasion, as she changed between her award acceptances and performance of her song ‘Flowers’.

As for that big, bold ‘do, the performer turned to her longtime hairstylist Bob Recine.

“I’ve been working with Miley for a long time and tonight we wanted to create different than last year, with a style that felt like it had a ’70s, Barbarella feel while still having a modern, punk edge,” the stylist revealed to People.

“By creating a big hair look, while still leaving some of the teasing visible, it allows the look to maintain a fresh, sexy feeling.”

Recine further referenced an inspiration as being “a punk, Raquel Welch from the ’70s.”

If you want a more subtle look, carrying out a perfect, bouncy blow-dry will give your roots significant lift.

If you want to take it even higher, Recine revealed the steps he took to create the singer’s look:

Bob Recine’s step-by-step on Miley’s hair look:

1) Begin by adding two products to damp hair. Section by section from root to tip I apply NEXXUS Epic Shine Anti-Humidity Spray with its anti-humidity qualities to keep moisture and humidity from changing my end result. I also applied NEXXUS Prep&Protect Head Defense Spray to make sure I’m conditioning and protecting hair from high heat as I begin to blow dry each section with a medium round brush.

2) As I blow dry each section dry I apply NEXXUS XXL Volume Hairspray. Although I love all the NEXXUS Hairsprays, I really love this medium hold spray as it leaves hair with no residue and has a strong but soft hold on all styles. As I also softly tease the roots of hair, I apply it there also as it holds perfectly, and also gently. I also added a few Velcro rollers on top to get that sexy bounce.

3) To finish my look, I apply a few drops of NEXXUS Repair and Nourish Hair Oil on my fingertips that is infused with the beautiful Rose of Jericho Oil making it lightweight with excellent movement for my voluminous style, giving it a jewel-like shine and light reflective qualities that make hair soft and nourishingly healthy.

For the rest of her glam, makeup artist James Kaliardos used Pat McGrath Labs products for a bronzed and beautiful complexion.

Key products used included the brand’s Skin Fetish: Sublime Skin Highlighter in ‘Nude Opal’ on the face and ChromaLuxe Artistry Pigments ‘Twilight Temptation’ and ‘Golden Seductress’ on the eyes. Lips were completed with Pat McGrath Labs PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil ‘ Nude De Venus’ and MatteTrance Lipstick in ‘Honey Haze.’
