Michelle is currently gracing the cover of the September 2018 Vanity Fair, and she shared with the magazine about finding love again.
Known for keeping her private life very private, the secretive actress still kept the details of her partnership close to her chest, describing their bond as, “Very sacred, and very secret”. Despite not giving too much away though, it’s clear the couple share a deep level of connection.
The two are both single parents who overcame the loss of significant others, which is no doubt one of the reasons they relate to each other so well, sharing a very deep bond. Phil’s wife, Geneviève Castrée, died of pancreatic cancer in July 2016, four months after their daughter was born. Michelle’s daughter Matilda was only two when her father passed away from an accidental drug overdose.
Michelle shared with Vogue what she says to Matilda about her father, “I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.” She also revealed that she never gave up on love.
“Ultimately the way [Phil] loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole. I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free.”
Michelle was reluctant to give away too many other details but did give some top relationship advice.
“Don’t settle for something that feels like a prison, or is hard, or hurts you. If it doesn’t feel like love, it’s not love.”
