Maria Tash is the US jewellery designer that set out to transform the world of piercing when she started her line back in 1993.
The New York City native succeeded in bringing ear piercing – and wearing multiple tiny ear studs – into the fine jewellery realm with her line of gold and diamond designs, and has since become a celebrity favourite.
The designer operates thirteen high-end boutiques globally and has just added a new location in Sydney.
Maria Tash has just opened a store-within-a store at MECCA’s George Street flagship in Sydney’s CBD and offers a range of fine gold studs, even employing piecing ‘stylists’ to help you curate your placement of ear studs and earrings.
The spacious new counter has two private piercing rooms and an expert team of stylists and piercers offering a full suite of services including styling, piercing, check-ups, and consultations.
The brand’s designs are said to live at the intersection of beauty, fashion and jewellery, a good indication of why MECCA, best known for retailing beauty products like makeup and skincare, has embraced it as a new option for self expression.
Each jewellery piece, from tiny gold studs to more dramatic diamond stars, drops and hoops, is made to fit the wearer comfortably, like a second skin.
Maria Tash has even developed what is known as the ‘Curated Ear’ technique where clients artfully combine studs and rings in a unique way that reflects their personal style. The styling staff, also available at the MECCA location, provide consultations to guide customers in creating their very own curation, analysing their personal style, anatomy, and skin tone for metal compatibility before selecting tailored recommendations.
There’s even ‘Tash Studio’ software that helps you visualise the designs on your ear to pick the perfect placement first before the piercings are done and jewellery is confirmed.
For many the result is an eye-catching collection of tiny pieces situated around the ear, in a pattern, symmetrical placement, or even with a theme.
It’s an approach that has proven incredibly popular and the brand has a host of celebrity fans from the likes of Rihanna, Helen Mirren, Dua Lupa, Charlize Theron, Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, Ashley Graham, Maluma, and Bad Bunny.
Taylor Swift is one of the most recent stars to wear the brand’s designs, teaming Maria Tash sparkling Floating Diamond Tassels with her Versace gown at September’s MTV VMAs.
Maria Tash within MECCA George Street in Sydney is now open.
