Makeup artist Kiekie Stanners is one of New Zealand’s top industry talents, her career taking her all over the world, working on a huge variety of projects including international fashion weeks, celebrities, performing arts and fashion editorials.
She’s also known for always rocking her own flawless and fresh makeup that often has a touch of edgy glam.
We asked Kiekie for some quick tips on how to approach the season makeup-wise and what she wont be without this summer.
Skinimalism for summer – How do we get that fresh, modern skin look that won’t leave us looking too ‘done’?
Skinimalism is such a great word. I feel like summer skin is all about a polished finish – skin that looks effortlessly buffed, smooth and glowing.
Prep is key. Prepare the skin with ultra hydration, smooth with a silky priming product and choose foundation and or concealers with a balmy creme texture to ensure a flawless finish. As we’ve seen for a while now, the transition into cream and liquid cheek colours that again mimic real texture of skin are ideal as they provide an effortless flush. Try adding a touch of cream glow onto the cheekbones so it picks up the light in the summer sun. I’m loving the Aleph Beauty highlights at the moment.
If you’re traditionally a full-coverage lover, how can we adjust that approach?
Think about different tools to use to change up your finish. Try using a Beauty Blender sponge to press product into skin, or a domed-head foundation brush so the application sheers out when applied. Alternatively, mix a sheering product into your foundation to create a new, more luminous finish from your already perfect shade of foundation. A drop or two of an essential oil into your foundation, a generous spritz of setting spray into the formula or even a small amount of your everyday moisturiser can switch up your full coverage to something a little more transparent and breathable.
