The Fall/Winter 24/45 collection was presented in the Cour Carrée at the Louvre in front of an astounding 4000 guests, gathered in the exact spot Ghesquière presented his first collection exactly ten years ago.
This time, the set was once again conceived by artist Philippe Parreno and James Chinlund, and the music by sound designer Nicolas Becker, setting the scene with many recognisable guests, although the landscape of the fashion industry continues to evolve.
Unsurprisingly, Ghesquière was musing on that decade of design with the new collection, and fans are likely to spot more than a few nods to his inventive shapes and garment construction included in previous years’ collections.
But the designer is known for pushing fashion forward, so his eye was also fixed on the future, in the form of texture-play, contrasts in luxury fabrications and both voluminous and sleek silhouettes, pulled together with the elegant glamour that makes the label incredibly desirable.
Of course the heritage of the brand is always a talking point, and there were playful yet chic nods to the house’s origins as a luggage purveyor, with trunk-prints – and that very famous monogram – on silk dresses and some fun reinventions of handbags and mini trunks too.
The collection was attended by a constellation of stars like Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, Sophie Turner and Catherine Deneuve lining the front rows.
Winter layering was also a desirable focus and as Hollywood’s awards season continues on, there was enough glitz and glam to turn heads on upcoming red carpets too.
