Kim Jones, who departed Louis Vuitton at the start of the year, made his anticipated debut as Dior Homme designer in Paris on Saturday. Here’s everything you need to know about the Spring/Summer 2019 show.
The front row was as A-list as it gets
From pop stars to fashion icons, the who’s who from almost every industry imaginary flocked to Paris for Jones’s Dior debut. Virgil Abloh, who made his debut at Louis Vuitton just days before, sat alongside Kanye West and A$AP Rocky. Karl Lagerfeld, Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss were a few the heavyweights from the fashion world that turned up to support Jones. Other notable faces included Rita Ora, Lilly Allen, Bella Hadid, Winnie Harlow and Robert Pattison.
Jones looked to the Dior archives for inspiration
There were plenty of references to Dior of bygone days throughout the collection which was shown at the Garden Republicaine in Paris. Blush hues sent down the runway honoured Monsieur Dior’s obsession with roses; Jones had fabric made to imitate detailing from one of Christian Dior’s former studios and there were even intricate feathered flowers placed under vinyl based on Dior’s personal porcelain.
A prince opened the show
Prince Nikolai of Denmark opened the Spring/Summer 2019 show in suit and sneakers ensemble.“I’m half Danish and Mr Dior always had that thing with royalty, and so I thought it would be nice to open with a prince,” Jones told The Guardian.
