The actress, who also happens to be Judi Dench’s daughter, will appear in Hugh Whitemore’s 1983 drama Pack Of Lies next month at the Menier Chocolate Factory in Southwark. The piece is hugely poignant, not only because of the family connection but also because the playwright died just two weeks ago.
Finty referred to the family connection as being ‘spooky’. Her parents, Judi and Michael Williams, played Bob and Barbara Jackson, who were asked to spy on their neighbours (and best friends) who are suspected of being Soviet spies.
Finty also described the opportunity as being very daunting, as her mother played the part so well.
It’s no surprise that Williams pursued acting for a career, with a mother like Judi Dench and a father like Michael Williams. She has worked with her mother on many projects, including the film Mrs Brown (1997), in Charles Dance’s film Ladies in Lavender (2004) and in James Graham’s play The Vote (2015) at The Donmar Warehouse.
