Jacinda Ardern and partner Clarke Gayford arrived at the hospital at 5.50am today. Jacinda will soon give birth to the couple's first child.

After much anticipation, it has been reported that the Prime Minister is in labour. Her due date was Sunday 17 June so she’s a few days overdue, but no doubt very ready to meet her little person.

The Prime Minister’s office confirmed the news in a statement today. Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters is now Acting Prime Minister.

When Ms Ardern gives birth, she will become the world’s first country leader, in modern times, to give birth while governing. Mr Gayford will be the primary caregiver.

Ms Ardern found out she was pregnant last October, telling Clarke through a facebook video call.

The excited couple announced the news to the public on January 19th through a very sweet Instagram post.

Yesterday, Clarke tweeted a photo of Jacinda still working at home.

But for now the books are down while we wait to hear some exciting news.
