Inside the issue: STYLE Autumn 2022

By MiNDFOOD

Inside the issue: STYLE Autumn 2022
This autumn, we introduce you to other worlds filled with irresistible things, from eye-catching architectural wonders and exciting cultural talent, to effortless beauty, luxe fashion and hidden hospitality gems.

This season, we introduce you to our new STYLE Editor, Ashley Wallace. “One thing STYLE does particularly well is offer escapism – it is a place to leave the stresses of day-to-day life behind and to simply appreciate luxury, beauty and innovation,” she writes. “We introduce our audience to other worlds filled with irresistible things, but we also allow you to discover New Zealand in new ways.”

Our two covers this issue both exude those cosy autumn vibes. On one cover, we celebrate classic wardrobe staples that are so often the stars of this season, and last for so many more; on the other, the colourful home of Games of Thrones actress Carice van Houten in all its eclectic glory.

DESIGN

In design, we showcase exceptional international decor along with local creatives. Get lost in the bold abode of a famed Dutch actress, discover an immersive cafe-turned-art-space in Copenhagen, and step inside a grand Victorian home that has been beautifully revitalised.

As the weather gets cooler, we invite you to luxuriate in fine cashmere throws, browse lush fabric and wallpapers, and peruse locally-made homewares from Frances Nation. Elsewhere in design, we marvel at the groundbreaking work of eco-architect Koichi Takada, showcase Egyptian-inspired textiles from Pierre Frey, and look at the timeless appeal of the famed Archibald chair.

CULTURE

This season’s culture edition shines a light on our rich pool of Kiwi talent. We meet the pioneering female composers pulling off incredible musical feats, sit down with BROODS to hear about their fresh new album, and celebrate 25 years of Indian Ink Theatre Company.

We also get to know homegrown screenwriter Simone Nathan making waves both here and abroad, step inside a new Auckland art gallery challenging industry norms, and learn about the fascinating relationship between Rolex and the Oscars.

BEAUTY

New innovations meet our desire for feel-good colour and effortless beauty solutions and Beauty Editor Megan Bedford rounds up a host of fresh products for the new season.

We also sit down with three Kiwi fragrance brands doing intoxicating things with scents, go beyond detox to uncover the future of injectables, put the latest eye creams and treatments to the test and look at advancements in cleansing and caring for gorgeous, healthy locks.

ACCESSORIES

From classic rose jewellery to military-inspired combat boots, autumn accessorising is all about having fun. We showcase the return of an iconic Louis Vuitton bag by the late Virgil Abloh, dazzling Dior Men accessories, along with a curated collection of high-end jewellery, including the return of a Bulgari icon.

FASHION

Take a journey through gorgeous landscapes and the hottest trends of the season and discover cool classics with textures, layers and a high-fashion appeal. Embrace the change of season with stylish outerwear to keep you snug and head back to the 90s era fashion in a new book of photography.

CONCIERGE

Join us as we head across the country to discover the best new openings and hidden gems in hospitality. First up, we head off the beaten track to a remote fine dining restaurant, then meet the young chef behind Christchurch’s newest wine bar.

Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas rounds up the best cocktail bars around Aotearoa and we put the Range Rover Sport to the test. We also sit down with the owners of K’ Road’s beloved Spanish eatery, Candela, and enjoy a weekend away at an artsy Queenstown hotel.

STYLE Summer 2022 is on sale Monday 21 March – available in stores and online here.
