How to get gorgeous party hair that lasts

How to get gorgeous party hair that lasts
Given the way black tie soirees have mostly stepped aside for slightly more casual celebrations, so too our go-to ‘going out’ hairstyles should adjust.

What’s trending now? Ensuring strands stay healthy, shiny and strong day-to-day, so you can easily smooth them into a polished style that makes you feel fabulous without feeling overdone.

It’s not just about an up-do, a simple hair-down style can be elevated with a gentle wave created with hot tools.

Making strategic changes to your hair care routine is the secret to having a great hair day, (and night!) The first step is to ensure adequate hydration so strands look sleek when styled and flyaways are minimised. Using shampoo and condition for your hair type is key, as is giving your hair a weekly boost of hydrating and shine with a reparative hair mask.

Of course, if you are going for all-out glam, there are a couple of key approaches to help your ‘do last the distance.

There’s one party tip Joico ambassador and owner of Cocoon Hair Design Felicity Bruce swears by that many overlook.

I always look at what the weather is doing so I can help my client choose a style that will last.“

For an on-trend style that will look great all night regardless, try a ponytail, she says.  “They add a bit of fun. They can be slick and sleek or textured and waved but they must be high!”

If you have shorter hair, for a party she recommends a textured finish like waves or a bouncy blow dry.

If you’re styling your own hair it’s imperative to use the right styling products for the look you’re aiming for and to make sure your hair is completely dry before using any hot tools.

“I start any straight hair blow dry with Joico Dream Blowout, it reduces the drying time by 50% so you can spend time on each section. Using a round or paddle brush will help you flatten the cuticles and give your style more hold. Once it is dry I always protect the hair with Joico Heat Hero, it gives the hair shine with a very light hold.”

For a sleek look she finishes with Joico Humidity Blocker to add the final layer of style protection from the elements.

”It will fight frizz and static as well as giving your hair more shine.”

For curling she says one of the imperative steps is to make sure your hair is completely dry before using any hot tools, tongs or rollers.

That being said she starts the foundation of the look by prepping hair from wet with key styling products.

“[ For curling} Blow dry using a volume product like Joico JoiWhip which gives hair strength to hold the curls. Joico Heat Hero on every section before using any hot tongs or rollers to protect from heat and the shine will make the curl look natural. If you want extra longevity, set it as you go by [clipping up until cool] using pincurl clips or bobby pins. This will let the curl cool properly. “

She finishes with Joico Humidity Blocker and Joico Flip Turn to set it in place.

The most important thing? “Avoid moisture at all costs!” she says.
