How to Create Elizabeth Debicki’s Party-Perfect Awards Season Makeup Look

A new take on the classic smoky eye and nude-pink lip look that's perfect for your next party.

Celebrities have expert glam teams on hand to create their red-carpet beauty looks.

But for the rest of us, getting our hair and makeup done by a pro is a rare treat. Next time we have the opportunity? We’re taking along this image of The Crown actress Elizabeth Debicki.

The Paris-born Aussie star captivated the red carpet at this year’s Critics Choice Awards and took home the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of the late Princess Diana in television hit series The Crown.

Adding a cool twist amongst a sea of  floor-length gowns most wore to the event, Debicki looked stunning in a crystal-embellished jumpsuit from Oscar de la Renta’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection. She finished the look with jewels by Dior and shoes by Betsey Johnson.

What really kept the look fresh was the choice of styling her hair in side-wept, gently-tumbling Hollywood waves and choosing a makeup look that is classy with just a touch of drama.

Makeup artists and hairdressers regularly encounter celebrity photos offered up by their clients as an example of the look they’re after. It’s one way the industry takes stock of evolving trends and the impact certain stars (and social media influencers) have on the looks that are desirable and the products sought-after to recreate them.

We’re picking Debicki’s look will be a popular reference in the coming season and beyond.

Created by celebrity makeup artist Georgie Eisdell using French luxury beauty brand Chantecaille, her softly smudged smoky eye and rosy-nude lip is a classic approach for a glam or after-dark look.

Eisdell reveals the choices she made for application were guided by Debicki’s outfit.

“I wanted to lean into the edginess of the jumpsuit and keep the look simple, lashy and cool,” the artist, who also works with A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Anya Taylor-Joy and Gwyneth Paltrow, shared. “I wanted her skin matte and her lips light.”

How to get the look

If you’re not able to visit an expert for your next special event, Eisdell has shared some tips on the Chantecaille makeup and skincare products, available here from Mecca, she used to enhance Debicki’s face.

“Elizabeth’s skin is absolutely stunning and flawless, I didn’t want to cover it, ” she says, revealing she prepped the actress’s skin well prior to colour, applying Bio Lifting Serum+, Bio Lifting Cream+ and Bio Lifting Eye Cream to smooth, lift, firm and hydrate the skin.

For her base, she applied Future Skin gel foundation only on the t-zone then blended it out to the edge of the face, blending it into the hairline.

A little Sheer Bronze Face Tint was used to add a bit of glow and shape before applying Cheek Gelée blush in Lively, a fresh peach shade, on the apple of the cheek for a little pop of colour.  A light dusting of HD Perfecting Powder helped keep the look in place for hours.

“The eyes were the focus. I wanted them to have a depth and an ease to them,” Eisdell points out of the smoky finish.

Across the lash line she applied Eye Kajal black liner then smudged it out to begin creating the shape. She also blended the liner up towards the crease of the eye then layered HD Perfecting Powder over to even it all out. Le Stylo Ultra Slim in Black was skimmed right along the upper lash line for even more definition. Under the eye, Georgie tapered the liner towards the inner corner and blended it gently with a brush.

The makeup artist used a thin layer of Faux Cils Longest Lash black mascara, making sure to push the mascara wand right into the lash line and wiggling it to the tip of the lash to coat the lash thoroughly, repeating three times.

Brows were brushed up and set with Waterproof Brow Definer in Ash Blonde and Full Brow Perfecting Gel.

The finishing touch was that beautifully soft lip, prepped with a balm then coloured with Lip Definer in Nuance, and dewy Lip Chic lipstick in Patience, the perfect nude rose hue.

Debicki’s hair was styled by celeb hairdresser Gregory Russell, who also boasts a clientele of top stars, using Pureology hair products.
