Helen Mirren the new face of L’Oreal Paris

The Oscar-winning actress has signed on as the UK ambassador for the beauty label, insisting she wants to stay true  to her image by asking not  to be re-touched.

‘I am not gorgeous, I never was, but I was always OK-looking and I’m keen to stay that way,’ said Dame Mirren.

The 69- year-old star follows int he footsteps of other actresses such as Julianne Moore and Jane Fonda, in association with the beauty brand.

Mirrren’s ambassadorship marks a new approach to age in the often younger-dominated fashion and beauty industry.

But the brand is not on a campaign to promote anti-ageing, rather it is celebrating ageless beauty and style.

“I am truly delighted to become an ambassador and join such an impressive group of high-achievers,” Mirren said of the news.

“I hope I can inspire other women towards greater confidence by making the most of their natural good looks,” she added.

Dame Helen has never been shy about sharing her age with the public.

In June she accepted the Icon Award at the Glamour Women of the Year ceremony saying: “Your 40s are good. Your 50s are great. Your 60s are fab. And 70 is f—— awesome. I’m not quite there yet, but almost.”

Elen Macaskill, L’OrĂ©al’s general manager, described Dame Helen as “brilliant, irreverent, beautiful, sexy and quintessentially British.”

“She is subtle and alluring, and to women in the arts she’s an inspiration and a tireless supporter of emerging talent. As you can tell I’m a huge fan, and we’re incredibly excited to introduce her as an ambassador for our brand.”

Inner Strength

MiNDFOOD recently hosted a lunch with Shiseido and invited four readers to discuss beauty from within.

The readers had spent the past four weeks trialing Shiseido’s new Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate, a serum that seeks to strengthen the skin from the inside, so it’s better protected against, and able to repair damage caused by environmental and emotional stress.

Stress is said to increase skin aging, because the cells are less able to fight damage. Ultimune is based on Shiseido laboratories’ 20-plus years research into skin immunity, and the discovery that the Langerhans cells which control it can be weakened by external and internal stress.

The complex at the heart of Ultimune is said to directly enhance the function of immunity-related cells, making the skin stronger and better able to fight against damage.

Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate is an inclusive product, designed for use by all ages, ethnicities and skin types. “I think we [all] have to be happy with what we’ve got,” reader Julie Gin (62) told us.

After the four-week trial of Ultimune, all our readers said that their skin felt great. “It was like covering your skin with silk, it really sank in and wasn’t greasy at all,” said Ursula Cranmer (53), of her first impressions of the serum.

At the end of the four weeks, Leah Damm (25), told us she noticed the firmness of her skin had improved, and Jayne Quaife (47), commented that she could even go to the supermarket or on a run without make-up on and still feel good. Feeling comfortable in your own skin, what could be more positive than that?
