Florence Pugh has explained what inspired her to shave off her hair.

The Oppenheimer star has sported a shaved head over the last couple of months, and she has now revealed that she opted for the new look to get rid of vanity.

“I purposefully chose to look like that. I wanted vanity out of the picture,” Florence, 27, told the Radio Times in a recent interview.

“Hollywood is very glamorous – especially for women – and it’s hard for an audience to see past that. Whenever I’ve not needed to be glam or have a full face of makeup, I fight to keep it that way. It helps the audience.”

She added, “Vanity is gone. The only thing that people can look at then is your raw face.”

The Little Women star stated that she has continuously fought to “control” her image throughout her onscreen career.

“Even at the beginning of my career, I was always fighting to control my image,” the star explained. “It helps me when I’m wearing less makeup because then I’m less of a sparkly thing on screen. I feel like I’m allowed to do ugly faces, like it’s more acceptable.”

The film star debuted her shaved head on the red carpet of the 2023 Met Gala in May.

For the London premiere of her latest film Oppenheimer last week, Florence dyed her grown-out buzzcut a yellowy-orange shade to compliment her burnt orange Valentino dress.
