Five of the most popular nude lipstick shades to try now
Seek out an on-trend nude lipstick that provides the perfect 'your lips but better' colour.

Nude lipstick is seriously trending.

While it’s true that the lip-coloured hue has been popular since the nineties, when a brownish tint was the norm, the hue is undoubtedly having a moment again right now.

It’s also true that ‘nude’ does not refer to one universal colour, as everyone’s skin is different. Lip colours listed under the banner regularly range from deep coffee colour to a pinky-rose shade.

That being said, there are a number of best-selling, suits-most shades that fall somewhere in the middle. As such they are hugely popular and remain in ‘must-have’ lists for years thanks to their complexion-flattering colours, innovative and comfortable formulas and versatility across various skin tones.

What they have in common is the ability to enhance the natural colour of your lips, and with natural lip pigment diminishing with age, they can provide a stylish way to return some of that colour.

However, personal preference and individual skin undertones can greatly influence which nude lipstick works best. That’s why if you can, it’s useful to head to a makeup counter to swatch each product and try on several shades to find what suits you.

MAC Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy

A favourite of many in the years since it was first released in 2004, MAC’s Velvet Teddy is a cult-favorite nude lipstick with a creamy, matte finish. It’s a warm-toned, deep beige shade that suits a wide range of skin tones.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk

It would be hard to find a more famous lipstick shade right now. Created by leading UK makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, Pillow Talk has been been a favourite of celebrities on the red carpet – not to mention the rest of us! – for years. Its nude pink undertones create a natural-looking colour and the matte formula lasts beautifully on lips for hours. The colour is easy to wear throughout the day for work or casual occasions as well as in the evening or for special events. It also comes in a slightly warmer and deeper berry-pink shade called Pillow Talk Medium that also works well for a range of skin tones but particularly flatters deeper skin tones.

Dior Rouge Dior Couture Lipstick in Nude Look 100

Dior has a couple of iconic colours, one of which is this perfect nude hue. Shade 100 is a modern, universally flattering mid-toned nude lipstick that is offered in a number of textures so you can choose which lipstick finish is right for you. This includes the new long-wear Rouge Dior Forever lipstick, a Rouge Dior Forever liquid lipstick version, the hydrating, shiny-finish Dior Addict lipstick and the same shade in refillable Rouge Dior lipstick in satin, velvet, matte or even metallic finishes. Shade 200 is a similar nude with a slightly deeper and more brownish hue.

Revlon ColorStay Suede Ink Lipstick in That Girl

The newcomer everyone is talking about, this hydrating pinky-nude matte is an affordable option that wears well and feels comfortable on the lips. This lipstick formulation also offers a number of other great nude shades that are well worth considering too.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Hydrating Vibrant Shine Lip Colour in Boy

With less intensity than other options this sheer, balmy colour has a hint more brown in it, but creates a subtle flattering sheen to lips. We love the way it can be worn any time of day and helps you feel put together without being overdone. It also skims over lip lines and creases to create the illusion of a slightly fuller lip.
