A pregnant woman has spoken of how her boyfriend survived the Genoa bridge collapse by clinging onto wires, hanging many meters above the ground.

Gianluca Ardini was travelling across the Genoa bridge, making a delivery with his colleague when the Morandi bridge gave way beneath them.

Gianluca’s girlfriend, Giulia Organo, has described her boyfriend’s survival as a “miracle”. The computer games salesman almost plunged 150ft to his death but managed to cling on to wires 65ft above the ground despite dislocating his shoulder.

Giulia, who is 8 months pregnant with their first child, said that thinking of the unborn baby “gave him the strength to survive”.

Mr Ardini’s colleague, Luigi Matti Altadonna, 34, tragically fell 150ft to his death. Mr Altadonna was a father-of-four.
