The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to take on a new venture in the world of cinema, as they prepare to produce an upcoming film for the popular streaming platform Netflix.

Prince Harry and Meghan, known for their involvement in various media projects, have reportedly secured the rights to adapt Carley Fortune’s novel ‘Meet Me At The Lake’, a poignant tale centred around a couple who forge a connection in their thirties.

Notably, one of the characters in the story, akin to Prince Harry’s personal experience, grapples with the loss of a parent in a car accident during their childhood. The novel delves into profound themes including alcoholism, substance abuse, and mental health struggles.

This cinematic endeavour is poised to be the first collaborative off-screen effort for the royal couple, in line with their speculated £75 million deal inked with the streaming giant three years ago.

A well-placed insider disclosed to The Sun on Sunday newspaper, “The resonating themes of the book deeply captivated Prince Harry and Meghan, making it the ideal choice for their inaugural adaptation under the Netflix partnership… This project stands as a pinnacle in their roles as producers.”

While the duo has previously produced the intimate docuseries ‘Harry + Meghan’ and the insightful documentary ‘Live to Lead’ for Netflix, their forthcoming project is touted to be a distinctive departure.

What is next for Harry & Meghan?

The couple is reportedly working on an innovative spin-off series based on Charles Dickens’ masterpiece, ‘Great Expectations’, as well as developing ‘Bad Manners’, a prequel centred around the iconic character Miss Havisham with a transformative twist. This reimagining envisions Miss Havisham as a resilient woman navigating a patriarchal society. However, the greenlight for this show remains pending.

Harry’s upcoming documentary series spotlighting the Invictus Games is nearing its completion. Meghan’s animated children’s series ‘Pearl’, was cancelled in May.

Despite a few setbacks and rejected proposals, the Duke and Duchess, along with Netflix, express contentment with their ongoing partnership.

A spokesperson from Archewell, the couple’s organisation, stated, “As with any burgeoning enterprise, modifications in personnel and strategy are commonplace during the initial phases. We are no exception to this rule, and our determination and vigour have only grown stronger.”

It is worth highlighting that Archewell has recently brought on board esteemed actress and producer Tracy Ryerson as the head of scripted content.

Meanwhile, Netflix remains enthusiastic about the collaboration, particularly lauding the monumental success of the documentary series ‘Harry + Meghan’. Their representative affirmed, “Our collaboration with Archewell has been incredibly rewarding, and we eagerly anticipate our continued work on multiple forthcoming projects.”
