Princess Charlotte turns four on May 2, and to celebrate their daughter’s birthday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released three new exclusive photographs.
While all eyes have been squarely focused on Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan as they prepare for the arrival of their new baby, today marks another special occasion in the British Royal Family – the fourth birthday of Princess Charlotte.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share three new photographs of Princess Charlotte ahead of her fourth birthday tomorrow,” the palace said in a statement.

The photographs were taken in April by The Duchess at Kensington Palace and at their home in Norfolk and show an adorable and playful young girl.
In one of the three photos, Charlotte sits sweetly in the grass, while in the other two, the four-year-old is full of energy with her hair pulled back in a ponytail in a tartan-style dress by Amaia.
Reports suggest that the little princess’s birthday will be spent at home privately where there will be a family celebration.
The new pictures are quite similar to the series of portraits Prince William and Duchess Kate released of Prince Louis for his 1st birthday in April, and show off Kate’s growing skills behind the camera.
Back to tradition
This year’s birthday portrait of Charlotte is particularly exciting because William and Kate didn’t release a new photo for her 3rd birthday, breaking a longstanding tradition.
Reaction on social media to the new photos is of the striking similarities between Queen Elizabeth and the young princess.
Charlotte and her great-grandmother do share a very similar and striking eye structure – from their matching blue eyes to the arch of their eyebrows, there’s no questioning their resemblance.
Happy Birthday, Princess Charlotte!
