Cornwall has been referred to as ‘Hollywood-on-Sea’ as there is increasing interest from a number of celebrities about buying property in the area.

Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly the latest star looking to buy a house in Cornwall.

Cornwall is a county in the southwestern part of the United Kingdom known for its stunning coastline with rugged cliffs, sandy coves and picturesque landscapes. Surrounded by the Celtic Sea to the west and the English Channel to the south, it is used as a holiday spot by many, being around five hours drive from London.

The 51-year-old Hollywood star was said to have been spotted in the seaside village of Polzeath, according to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre celebrity column.

“Gwyneth has been in the area recently and has been looking at a couple of potential places for a holiday home,” a local reported.

“She isn’t a stranger and has spent a bit of time in Cornwall over the years. But it seems the quiet and sedate pace of life in Polzeath has caught her eye. Gwyneth has become the talk of the village and there are apparently two places she has her eye on.”

With her ex-husband Chris Martin reportedly owning a place just 45 minutes away she would be close to her children, should they be staying with their father.

“Polzeath is a beautiful place and given how quiet it is, Gwyneth would be able to come and go without much fanfare,” the local explained.

“Some locals can get annoyed at the number of rich out of towners who come and buy up houses around our area but everyone seems pretty excited about the idea of having Gwyneth moving in.”

Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly looking to buy in the seaside village of Polzeath according to reports.

Other stars that own or rent homes in nearby costal areas include Cate Blanchett, Jamie Dornan, Jason Statham and Stanley Tucci.

According to reports, Oscar-winning Australian actor Blanchett is in the process of building a home at the celebrity hotspot of Mawgan Porth, a popular surfing spot. However locals are said to have been perturbed by the noise of the construction for the project.

The star is said to have bought a small stone cottage overlooking the beach with husband Andrew Upton in 2020, before deciding to demolish it to build a modern five-bedroom home with a pool.

The Times reported that one neighbour, 71, who did not want to be identified, said: “Everybody thinks it must be amazing to live in Hollywood-on-Sea but in reality it’s just a constant building site.

“All summer we’ve had lorries delivering materials to the building site and driving up and down this narrow lane while there are excited children running to and from the beach,” the neighbour said. “It’s a recipe for disaster.

“Every time you open the window you can hear drilling or huge equipment moving around, it’s making our lives a constant misery. We’re one of the few remaining families who live here year round, but when locals asked the council to only allow them to do building work outside peak season, that was ignored.”
Cornwall county offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including surfing, hiking along the South West Coast Path, and exploring the scenic gardens and parks.

With a a distinct cultural identity, including the Cornish language and a strong tradition of folk music and dance, it is also famous for its culinary offerings, including Cornish pasties, cream teas, and fresh seafood.

Its dramatic coastal scenery has been featured in films and television series, most notably the BBC series “Poldark.”
