A source told the Mail On Sunday newspaper: “Bridget is back and is about to take over London. Filming is being mapped out already and all of the pre- production is in place.
“There was some uncertainty about whether it would get off the ground, but the movie is coming.
“Renee is excited about bringing Bridget back. She adores the character so much. Bridget Jones fever is expected to sweep across London this spring.”
Renee is said to already be looking for a UK base for herself and her boyfriend Ant Anstead.
Meanwhile, it is unclear if the movie will be based on Fielding’s ‘Mad About The Boy’, released in 2013, which sees Bridget as a widow following the death of Mark.
The author previously told Radio Times: “Every film that gets made is a miracle. I think it’s really difficult to make films and to make them happen and to make them good and we want it to be really good. But I really hope so. I’d love to see it on the screen.”
Hugh Grant confirmed the film will see Renee Zellweger’s Bridget adjusting to life as a single mother following the death of her husband, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), and Hugh was impressed with the depth of emotion he found in the script.
He said: “It’s based on trying to bring up two children alone, and then [it’s] all mixed up in the Bridget Jones comedy, so it is very sad, as well as very funny.
“It has me in tears.”
The Best Yet
Sally Phillips has teased ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy’ may be the “best yet” and promised it won’t just be a “trip down nostalgia lane”.
The 54-year-old actress is set to reprise her role as the titular heroine’s best friend Shazzer in the upcoming fourth film in the franchise.
Sally’s comments echo recent remarks made by Hugh Grant, who is set to return as Daniel Cleaver.
Hugh – who didn’t appear in the third film, ‘Bridget Jones’ Baby’ – told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I’ll tell you what, I think this script for the fourth Bridget is the best one of the four. And, in fact, one of the best scripts I have read for in a long time.”
Leo Woodall to join the cast… plus some old favourites returning
Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor will star alongside Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant in a new Bridget Jones film.
Emma Thompson, who played the despairing obstetrician Doctor Rawlings in the 2016 film, will also return for the new outing, titled Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
