North Korea has launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile over the Japanese island of Hokkaido.
The missile flew approximately 2,300 miles before landing in the Pacific near the United State’s ally Japan. The missile is the second test in under a month, and marks an increasing tension between North Korea and Western countries.
North Korea expert Cheng Xiaohe from Renmin University, China says that Kim Jong-un’s brash actions will only worsen the situation. “If North Korea continues to take provocative actions which build up to a certain level, the security council will issue new sanctions,” he told The Guardian.
The UN are set to discuss the latest developments in an impromptu meeting tonight.
