Charles became king in September 2022 following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth. The Palace confirmed the King looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.
Charles spent three nights in hospital last month where he underwent a corrective procedure for a benign enlarged prostate. The palace said a separate issue of concern had been spotted during the hospital visit. No further details have been shared beyond saying the king had a “form of cancer.”
No further details are being shared on the stage of cancer or a prognosis.
King Charles Postpones Work Duties
The King has postpone his public engagements. It is expected other senior royals will help to stand in for him during his treatment.
He is expected to continue with his meetings with Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
Prince William has returned to work, following carers leave while looking after his wife, the Princess of Wale. The Princess recently underwent abdominal surgery and is expected to be resting until after Easter.
Prince Harry back on UK soil
Prince Harry arrived in London after an 11-hour British Airways flight from Los Angeles.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry said he had spoken to his father about the diagnosis on the phone before his departure. It was also confirmed that Meghan would remain in the US with their two children.
The Prince met with his father at Clarence House, before the King departed for Sandringham.
It was reported the Prince was with his father for 30 minutes.
He has now returned to California. He did not see his brother or sister-in-law, or any other family members according to reports.
Prince William thanks public for messages about King Charles
Prince William thanked the British public for their kind messages about his wife Kate following her recent surgery and about his father King Charles after he was diagnosed with cancer as he returned to official duties on Wednesday.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you … for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all.” said William, 41, the Prince of Wales.
“It’s fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather ‘medical’ focus. So I thought I’d come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all,” he told a gala dinner for London’s Air Ambulance Charity where guests included Hollywood actor Tom Cruise.
The event was the heir to the throne’s second official public appearance on Wednesday on his return to work having postponed all engagements to look after his three children after Kate’s abdominal surgery.
