Saturday was a somber day in Washington, D.C. as the US capital said goodbye to Senator John McCain. Meghan McCain and former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush all delivered emotional eulogies.

Delivering his eulogy from in front of McCain’s flag-draped coffin, Obama said: “So much of our politics, our public life, our public discourse can seem small and mean and petty, trafficking in bombast and insult and phony controversies and manufactured outrage.”

Obama did not mention US President Donald Trump by name, he did however speak of McCain’s calls to rise above ‘phony controversies’. Instead, the Former President praised McCain, highlighting his mischievous streak, heroism and unwavering loyalty to nation and ideals. One light-hearted moment even getting a laugh out of the some 2,500 invited guests.

President Trump was not at Saturday’s memorial service, at McCain’s own discretion.

Another sweet moment was caught on camera and shares a moment between Michelle Obama and George W. Bush that has the internet obsessed and feeling hopeful.

During the service, cameras showed Bush covertly passing the former First Lady some candy from his wife, Laura Bush. The sneaky exchange was not missed by viewers and has since taken over Twitter.
