But it’s not one you might suspect. The 31-year-old star has just been announced as the newest YSL Beauty ambassador, joining the brand to represent a brand new men’s fragrance called MYSLF.
The upcoming fragrance, that lands on counters here on September 2, is said to represent a ‘contemporary vision of masculinity’.
YSL MYSLF is housed in a tall black lacquered bottle and has notes of citrus, orange blossom, and a warm, woody base that includes patchouli and musky Ambrofix, a natural biotech material that mimics amber. It comes in a refillable, recyclable bottle.
The brand said in a statement announcing the new position that Butler’s multi-faceted personality, talents and interests made him the perfect choice to represent MYSLF, expected to lure a new generation of fragrance wearers.
“In seeking out a figure to embody YSL Beauty’s vision of the new masculinity, there could have been no better choice for us than Austin Butler,” says Stephan Bezy, International General Manager, YSL Beauty.
“Both as an artist and as a human being, he embodies the values expressed by our brand through MYSLF, a modern representation of what it means to be a man. Embracing his many facets. Owning up to his individuality, generously, unapologetically.”
Addressing the new role, Butler (who has previously worn Saint Laurent clothing on the red carpet) expressed his admiration for the brand’s late founder, fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent.
“I was honored to be asked to join the YSL Beauty family”, Butler says.
“Over the last few years, I’ve spoken with people who knew M. Saint Laurent. He broke through labels. He was a rebel, and I love that about him. I feel privileged to be a part of the heritage he set in motion.”

One of the most acclaimed actors of his generation, the rising American star has already collaborated with some of the most prestigious directors – Quentin Tarantino, Baz Luhrmann, Jim Jarmusch, and now Jeff Nichols and Denis Villeneuve for the upcoming Bikeriders and Dune: Part Two respectively. For his performance in Elvis he won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA win for Best Actor and was nominated for and Academy Award.
Butler is the latest in a number announcements heralding a new wave of fragrance and beauty brand ambassadors.
27-year-old Wonka Actor Timothée Chalamet was recently revealed as the new face of Chanel’s top-selling men’s fragrance Bleu, and last year Yves Saint-Laurent Beauté made Lil Nas X their US brand ambassador.
