Andie MacDowell shows how to rock Euphoria-style face gems

Red carpets at the Cannes Film Festival are always full of fashion and beauty eye-candy, usually of the glamorous kind.

Everyone looks great, so it’s sometimes tricky to stand out from the crowd.

Film legend Andie MacDowell however, achieved just that with a playful and forward-thinking beauty look that has the internet abuzz.

64-year-old MacDowell took to the the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival in a green Prada gown complemented with an eye makeup look accented with matching emerald crystals dotted under her eyelids.

The beauty look, created by L’Oréal’s global makeup director Val Garland for the event, embraced the current trend for face gems, popularised by TV show Euphoria. The tiny, shiny face embellishments have been regularly worn by young Hollywood and beauty enthusiasts everywhere but this confident and creative version is one of the first times we’ve seen a celebrity over the age of 30 rock the look.

The actress was at the event with fellow L’Oréal brand ambassadors, including Gemma Chan, Camille Razat, Aja Naomi King and Helen Mirren.

MacDowell is no stranger to inspiring beauty moves. Last year at Cannes she debuted her newly salt-and-pepper hair, telling Vogue she had never felt more powerful, after years spent colouring her curls a deep brunette.

“My managers had actually said to me, “It’s not time”,” she told the magazine. “And I said, “I think you’re wrong, and I’m going to be more powerful if I embrace where I am right now. It’s time because in two years I’m going to be 65. If I don’t do it now, I won’t have the chance to be salt and pepper. I always wanted to be salt and pepper!”

Since then she’s further embraced her silvery do, and wearing the bold green look this year was a smash hit that showed how to perfectly amplify grey hair’s glamour and beauty.

The Euphoria influence in beauty also continues to make a significant impact. This season sees the arrival of a makeup collection created by the makeup artist responsible for the looks on the hit TV show. The show’s head of makeup, Donni Davy, has just released Half Magic Beauty, a collection of makeup items, including, yes, face gems, as well as liquid eyeshadow and creamy liquid lipsticks.
