With the arrival of summer perhaps you’ve been itching to update your hair.
A big chop is looking appealing as the heat arrives, but you just can’t face such a big change right now.
A colour update seems the obvious option, but if you’ve been the same brunette shade for ages, it can be hard to find an appealing option to go for.
Thanks then goes to Amal Clooney and her celebrity hairstylist and colourist Dimitris Giannetos, for delivering the rich, glossy inspiration we all need this time of year.
Clooney’s stylist Giannetos revealed the human rights lawyer’s new look on Instagram.
The custom-blended shade looks similar to the hot-right-now hair colour known as ‘Beurre brunette’, through Giannetos called the delicious-looking shade “caramel macchiato hair.”
The fun moniker refers to the rich deep brown coffee tones accented and highlighted with hints of caramel.
Usually sporting a uniform, deep chocolate brown colour, Clooney’s update is just enough to lighten her look. Though she’s based in the northern hemisphere, this is the perfect update for those of us moving into the summer season.
Combined with voluminous tumbling waves – no doubt kept in shape with regular hair masks or treatments for shine and hydration and to banish frizz – it’s a look that’s hard to resist.
“Amal has the most beautiful natural hair,” her hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos, revealed to Vogue, sharing some of the tricks and products he loves to help style it to perfection.
“I always use thickening lotion in wet hair before I start the blow dry because it creates extra body and the styling lasts longer,” Giannetos shared, saying his favourite is Garnier Fructis Style Full & Plush Mega Full Thickening Lotion.
Then, it’s a case of using a round brush for a smooth-but-fluffy blow dry, before creating waves at the ends using GHD’s Soft Curl 1.25 inch curling iron.
“Curl each section of hair in different directions,” he advises. “This gives the hair look more effortless and modern look and feel.”

According to the makeup artist, Clooney’s flattering soft glam with hints of pink is thanks to products from Tilbury’s own popular makeup line. For skin, this included Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation and Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer, with a touch of the radiance-giving Hollywood Flawless Filter.
Her eyes were adorned with Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in Golden Goddess and lips completed with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat liner in Iconic Nude and Airbrush Flawless Lip Blur in Rose Blur.
